2008 SHARK/PIRELLI 600cc PRODUCTION
SERIES
Sunday 25th May
Qualifying went really well. I qualified on pole with a 54.553 second lap, but
this was just about the only bit of good luck I'd get all weekend!
Race 1
A typically average start saw me dropping into the first corner in fourth behind
Ryan Gibb, Willie Monie, and race leader Michael Robertson, but I managed to pass Ryan into Clarks corner before the end of
the lap, giving me third place. I was still in third on lap 7 when the race was red flagged due to a few fallen riders,
but because we hadn't completed two thirds distance, the organisers lined us back up on the grid for a single warm up lap
and a five lap dash to the chequered flag. Willie Monie crashed on the warm up lap, but the rest of the field lined up for
the restart. The lights went out and I found myself in second place at the end of the first of the five laps, and closing
on the leader, Michael Robertson. Unfortunately the race was red flagged yet again due to yet more fallen riders. The organisers
then took the controversial decision to declare that all points and results from these two aborted races were null and void
and that race two that afternoon would be worth double points, thereby throwing a lifeline to all the riders who had
crashed, but taking away all the hard work I'd put in to get up to second place and the twenty points I would have recieved.
Race 2
A decent start had me in third place as we headed into Duffus Dip. As the race
progressed, a pack of four leading riders, Michael Robertson, Willie Monie, Myself, and Ryan Gibb, started to pull away from
the rest of the field, but on lap 7 I was held up passing a back marker into the Glenvargil Chicane, giving Michael and Willie
a small gap. I was sure I was on for an easy third place when on lap 9 the front tyre tucked at Clarks corner, sending me
sliding over the track and ending my weekend on zero points.
